Privacy Policy

WakeMATE hasn't launched publicly yet, so this page is an early draft written ahead of a full legal review. It describes how the product actually behaves today, but treat it as provisional until launch.

What WakeMATE does

WakeMATE is a mobile app that discovers a computer on your local network, sends it a Wake-on-LAN signal, and — once it's online — sends authenticated control commands to WakeMATE Companion, a small desktop app running on that computer.

What we collect

WakeMATE does not require an account and does not send your personal information to our servers. The app stores the following only on your own device:

  • The devices you save (name, MAC address, IP address).
  • Your Companion's network address, pinned TLS fingerprint, and device-specific credential.
  • App preferences, such as trackpad sensitivity.

What WakeMATE Companion stores locally

On the computer side, WakeMATE Companion keeps its configuration and TLS identity in your operating system's app-data folder. Its pairing enrollment token uses the operating system credential store where available, with a local configuration fallback. Approved devices are recorded with hashes of their credentials, not the plaintext credentials themselves. WakeMATE does not upload this data to a WakeMATE service.

Network behavior

  • On a clean Windows install, the Companion's LAN API and UDP discovery are enabled, with its Windows Firewall rule limited to Private network profiles.
  • Input and power commands stay disabled until you scan the current tray QR code and approve the pairing request on the PC.
  • The version 3 QR contains connection details, a certificate fingerprint, and a fresh session token that can only begin pairing. It is scanned directly in the app and does not use the website as a redirect.
  • After approval, the phone and Companion communicate directly over your local Wi-Fi or LAN using that phone's revocable credential and the QR-pinned HTTPS connection. There is no cloud relay.

Sharing

We do not sell or share your information with third parties.

Your choices

  • Disable remote access or discovery in the Companion's config at any time.
  • Revoke an individual phone from the Companion's tray menu.
  • Rotate the pairing token to revoke every paired phone at once.
  • Delete a saved device, or all of them, directly in the app.
  • Uninstall either app at any time.
